Time For A Change

E-mail

One great thing about living in the New York/New Jersey area is getting to experience a change in seasons.  What a perfect way for Mother Nature to remind us that it’s time for a change. Three months is just the right amount of time to be in a certain routine before I feel I need to change it up a bit. The weather changes and so does the mood.

Look in any store and you will see the décor change for the upcoming season or holiday at least a month in advance. The seed has been planted in your mind as soon as you see the school supplies, the pumpkin spice candles, the sweaters and boots in the store windows that fall is right around the corner. The air even feels and smells differently in September than it did in August.

I definitely felt the shift.  A few weeks ago, I took my summer clothes out of the closet and replaced them with my “new” fall clothes I was persuaded to buy after seeing the displays in the store windows.  But I also noticed the extra few pounds that snuck up on my body while trying on the clothes. It’s almost like clock work, that every September I notice I’ve gained weight compared to the beginning of the summer.  It must be the subconscious thought of not having to wear a bikini now, or the chill in the air that makes me feel like cooking and eating more.

This is just the beginning! Soon there will be thanksgiving feasts and left-overs.  Once December starts, forget about it! I’m not sure how far the Jewish community takes their celebrations, but most of us Christians use this time as on ongoing feast. The work parties all start, the break rooms are filled with cookies and desserts, the friend of a friend whose party you were invited to, the cocktails…and the holiday isn’t even here yet!

Change is good if you use it to your advantage.  This is also a great time to give yourself a new look. After highlighting my already blond hair all summer, along with my fading tan, I felt I needed a new look. I decided to put reddish low-lights in my hair for more contrast. So far, nothing but compliments! I think it’s also time for a haircut.

This is a great time to change your workouts since the weather is perfect for outdoor activities. I think I will put running back into my routine as well as making an effort to actually “take” other instructors classes to give me a variety. Change is good…have fun with it!
